It's impossible not to be enchanted by what was once the largest Islamic school in North Africa. When you enter, you feel a mild temperature, due to the architecture and the size of the central courtyard, which makes the wind circulate and you forget for a moment that you're in hot, dry Marrakech. The colors, shapes, reliefs and silence all help to take your imagination back in time and join the disciplined students who used to decorate the Koran there and where they also lived. The madrasah ceased to be a school in the 1960s, and today it is simply an essential place to visit. Inside, the walls and columns are decorated with Moorish tiles forming geometric patterns, sculptures, stucco and cedar windows. This impressive architecture is a testament to the skill of Moroccan craftsmen and architects.
